The daughter of an antique dealer and granddaughter of seamstresses,
Mary Jane spent years as a costume designer in Toronto and New York before
parlaying her talents and love for vintage fabrics into a business of
making one-of-a kind pillows and home accessories. Before starting her
company she literally spent decades amassing a fabric library by combing
markets here and in Europe.
Mary Jane's business began with pillows and lampshades and has expanded to include
everything from luxe throws, to seasonal and exclusive items like
Christmas tree skirts and Christmas stockings, pet cushions, and decorative and useful items for table and desk.
Her first retail client was Bergdorf Goodman in 1991 whom she has
worked with ever since. She added Takashimaya and Treillage in New York
soon after. Her work with stores is a collaborative process. She
presents swatches and ideas to create a new collection formulated on
mutual inspirations.
The quest for rare and precious fabric takes her to auction houses,
estate sales, flea markets, online and on European buying trips. Her extensive
archive includes hundreds of pieces of 18th to 20th century fabrics and
trims from around the world.
